Women’s History Month: Are You Strong Enough to Lead? Yes

Chicago Realtors kicked off the thirty day period with a five-portion series. “You’re not a leader if you’re not paving a route,” Rev. Courtney Clayton Jenkins informed the digital crowd.

CHICAGO – “You’re not a leader if you’re not paving a path. You’re not a chief if you are dependent on other men and women to notify you what to do. As a leader, you are primary by way of modify. It is the number 1 detail you do,” reported the Rev. Courtney Clayton Jenkins, a pastor and trainer from South Euclid, Ohio.

Jenkins kicked off The Chicago Association of Realtors®’ five-component Women’s Historical past Month collection with a webinar entitled, “Leading As a result of Agony.”

“But here’s the offer,” Jenkins stated. “Change equals decline. It is anything that, even if you experience like this is what you’re intended to do, it’s a reduction. And the decline provides forth a grief and pain. Time period.”

Jenkins slice via the obstructions that folks place in the way of change, both in their private and expert life, and she had attendees filling the webinar chat with “amen” and “you reported it,” just as if she was talking just before congregants at her church, the South Euclid United Church of Christ.

Just one of the most significant obstacles, not seeking to rock other people’s boats, is one thing true leaders come to terms with. “You are a chief simply because your task is to embrace transform, to guide ahead,” Jenkins stated. “I ensure that anyone on your group will say, ‘I appreciated it the way it was.’ You are switching people’s lives and your very own life. There is reduction. There is grief. But you wouldn’t be where by you are if you always maintained all the things just as it is.”

Helpful leaders study how to system, navigate, and overcome ache. Otherwise, Jenkins said, “We tumble to numbing. Who doesn’t want to numb suffering? But I assure you, agony will birth anything out of the crucible of creativeness that pleasure will not.”

For these enduring soreness, she available three methods:

  1. Identify a pain associate or associates – a trusted mate, mentor, or counselor – “someone who listens and does not decide you when you are confused with ache and who does not check out to fix [the problem] for you,” Jenkins claimed.
  2. Reflect on background, reminding on your own of all you’ve conquer to get to wherever you are now. “You have survived it. You are right here. You are however standing. Don’t consider just about anything for granted. You ought to be grateful for every single trial you have get over,” she reported.
  3. Appear to the horizon. Whatsoever is leading to your discomfort, you’ll get as a result of it if you embrace and offer with it rather than hope it will go absent.

Going as a result of pain keeps you human and humble, Jenkins claimed. “If I’m a successful actual estate agent, I could look at my true estate numbers and say, ‘I’m superior.’ You can get a genuinely significant head if you have no issues! But you’re a far better leader when you’ve been touched by ache.”
