The Pain of Panes: New Windows in Short Supply

Two-thirds of builders cited a glass scarcity for home windows, shower doorways, and so forth. The supply problem? A great deal of it is produced in China, Mexico and India.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Glass joined the listing of developing resources in shorter supply. A vary of industries, together with shower door brands and window installers, report glass shortages.

Nearly two-thirds of residence builders cited windows as their most important material shortage, in accordance to a modern survey from John Burns Authentic Estate Consulting. Rounding out the top rated four in extra shortages are lumber, engineered wood items and concrete.

Window delays could array from 4 to 15 weeks, although some are stretching up to 45 months.

Why glass? An intercontinental logistics backlog led to shortages of glass and other supplies, professionals say. Numerous glass producers have moved functions abroad, and China, Mexico and India traditionally export the most glass and stone to the U.S.

The problem also impacts other industries. The glass scarcity has specifically influenced the supply of glass jars and bottles, a contributor to the soaring price tag of grocery products and solutions currently.
